SSPE and ozone therapy
What is SSPE?
SSPE (subacute sclerosing panancephalitis) is a very rare side effect of measles infection and is a slow viral infection of the central nervous system that usually results in death
Boys are watched about 3 times more than girls. SSPE, which occurs about 2-21 years after a measles infection , occurs mostly in childhood, although it can also be seen in young adults. Although SSPE is mostly fatal, 5-10% of cases have self-pausing cases, even if there is no cure. In recent years, it is stated that this rate is around 20-30% with support treatments. In a child with measles infection, changes in the structure of the virus, called M protein (M), glycoprotein (F) and hemagglutinin (H) occur after a long period of time in the structure of the virus that settles in the central nervous system. As a result of these changes in the structure of the virus, the brain tissue begins to replicate by synthesizing proteins. The cells of the nervous system ,called neurons, then multiply in their nuclei (nucleus), and then in their appendages called axons and dendrites. The proliferating virus destroys the neurons, resulting in clinical manifestations. As the number of destroyed neurons increases, the disease progresses. The treatment of SSPE uses interferon, which reduces the proliferation of the virus, and isoprinosin, which regulates the immune system, in addition to support (symptomatic) treatments for reducing the symptoms. there is no definitive data on how effective interferon and isoprinosine are. But it is said to have a stalling effect on progress in some patients. Rubeola (rubeola) is an enveloped RNA virus from the family Paramyxoviridae. In other words, there is a gene called RNA inside and an envelope consisting of a lipid layer outside. On the surface of the envelope are protrusions formed by hemagglutinin (H) and Fusion (F) glycoproteins. The H protein on the surface allows the patient to hold onto their cells, while the F protein allows them to enter the cell.
Ozone Therapy
ble to ozone because they cannot produce enzymes as a result of the metabolic burden of the infection. The virions that are released from cells that break down with ozone are devastated by the direct ozone effect. All viruses can be destroyed by ozone. However, due to the difference in the structure of each virus, its sensitivity to ozone is different. Especially those with a lipid layer called an envelope on the outside are more sensitive. It is one of the most sensitive virus group to ozone because it has the envelope structure of rubella. Ozone can reduce or eliminate the number of viruses by creating compounds that will destroy the virus in the body as well as directly affect the virus itself. The mechanisms of action of ozone on the virus can be listed as follows:
- It reacts with the overhangs of enveloped viruses, such as lipids, lipoprotein and glycoprotein, on their envelopes, disrupting their structure. As described above, the H protein that allows the envelope to hold onto the cells on the surface and the F protein that allows it to enter the cell will be degraded by ozone. With ozone, the patient’s ability to hold onto his or her cells and enter the cell is lost. The body’s immune system will recognize the virus, which has lost its disease-making properties by disrupting its structure, and self-grafting (autovaxination) may develop against these viruses into the body. Ozone prevents the structure of the lipid layer by disrupting the cells of the body, as the lipid layer deteriorates the virus will break down and the number of destroyed virus will be reduced.
- The number of viruses in the body will decrease by showing antiviral effects in the presence of peroxidases rising in the blood of ozonated patients..
- By activating the immune system, the immune system increases the release of citokin from its cells. Citokin significantly reduces the number of viruses in circulating blood by disrupting the virus structure. Ozone can increase interferon 400-900 times in the body, which prevents virus proliferation, is used in many viral diseases such as measles and in some types of cancer..
- Although ozone is used in all viral diseases, especially in infections caused by viruses with enveloped structure (rubella is also enveloped virus), it is used successfully alone or with other treatments. Since ozone breaks down the lipid structure of the envelope, the structure of the virus is broken down and the disease-making property is lost.
As a result
Corruption of the Virus structure (denatured))
Deterioration of the lipoprotein and glycoprotein structure of the envelope surrounding the virus,
Formation of lipid and protein peroxides with Antiviral effect,
Increased production of citokine, interferon in the body,
Ozone therapy is effective in viral diseases such as measles.
In addition, ozone oxygenates all tissues, strengthens the antioxidant system and provides relief of the symptoms of the patient, relieves or prevents the course of secondary infections that occur later.
